Users with any Bitwarden paid plan can now archive vault items, safely allowing you to keep lesser used credentials out of the way without deleting them. When you need them again, they can be accessed or unarchived and restored back to where they were. Archived items will not clutter search results and autofill suggestions, so they won't slow you down during everyday use.
Vaults get messy over time
Just like our homes, we often have things that we keep around in case we might need it later, or can’t bring ourselves to delete. Some examples may include a login to an old health portal, tax documentation from prior years, a long-abandoned blog project, and more. You may not have logged into these sites for a long time, but there’s always the possibility that you might have to in the future. Sometimes these saved vault items get in the way and appear in search results, autofill suggestions, or are just an eyesore when scrolling through your vault contents.
Archive old items and clear the clutter
Available for all paid plans, users can now archive any item from the web, mobile, and desktop apps, as well as the browser extension. Simply open the item and click the archive button and the item will move out of your standard vault view and into the Archive. It is still within reach, and can be accessed again by using the Archive filter in the web app or from Vault Options > Archive in the browser extension, and the Hidden Items section of the main vault page in the mobile app.
TIP: The web app can archive several items in bulk!
Out of sight, but not out of mind
Archived items can still be viewed and edited, in case you need to add a descriptive note or adjust the URL. Most importantly, archived items will still appear in vault health reporting. This way if there’s a data breach at the site you rarely visit you can still be alerted that you need to update that password.
Just like how favorite items behave, items are archived on a per-user basis. That is, archiving an item only affects you, and not anyone else that you’ve shared the item with. A shared item will still appear in other users’ search results and autofill.
Items are only archived for you. Shared items remain available to others.
A vault that works the way you do
With archiving vault items, you can keep the items you need close, and the items you don’t in cold storage - a happy medium that's neither having them in the way nor deleting forever.
Archiving items is a feature available to all Bitwarden paid plans, but secure password management is available to everyone! Get started with Bitwarden today and start securing your digital life.
