# Importing to Bitwarden is easy!

With new direct import options and file types supported, it’s never been easier to get started with Bitwarden!

Bitwarden makes bringing over your digital life from another service easy, with multiple methods supported. Now two new options expand this capability: Direct Import from Keeper, and support for the KeePass KDBX filetype. Read on to learn all the ways to move your stuff to Bitwarden, pizza and friends not required.

## Two ways to import: direct and by file

### Direct importing

A direct import is the preferred, most secure method of bringing your vault over to Bitwarden. Either Bitwarden or your operating system will access your old solution directly and copy the vault items over. This retains the highest fidelity of the items, and there’s no exported file to manage. This can be performed through the Bitwarden Direct Importer tools or via the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP).

### Import by file

The most common method for transferring items is importing from a file. To perform this, go to your old solution, export whatever filetype they support, and then import that file into Bitwarden from the [Import tool](https://bitwarden.com/es-la/help/import-data/#import-to-your-individual-vault/). Once you’ve completed your import, you need to be sure to safely delete the exported file since all your passwords are in there unencrypted.

**Supported import file types:**

Bitwarden supports a very large number of import filetypes, including:

- .kdbx - KeePass
- .1pux - 1Password
- .json - Keeper, Dashlane, ProtonPass, and more
- .csv - LastPass, NordPass, RoboForm, Zoho Vault, and much more
